UPDATE (6:00pm): A 45-year-old man has been winched to safety, after he fell six metres down an embankment at Dudley Bluff, halfway between Dudley and Redhead Beach.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter has airlifted the bushwalker to the John Hunter, with a suspected broken ankle.
EARLIER (4:30pm): A delicate rescue operation is underway at Dudley Bluff, south of Newcastle, to retrieve a bushwalker who has fallen at least six metres down the cliff.
The 45-year-old man is believed to have sustained an ankle injury and a cut to the head in the fall, with three ambulances called to the scene.
At this stage, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter is working to winch the man to safety, however the operation is proving difficult, with dense scrub surrounding the man.
It's believed the rescue could take some time.
