Two big all Victorian AFL matches are on this weekend, let’s be real nothing makes a Melbourne weekend like wrapping your team’s scarf on and heading out to the game with some mates. Collingwood v Geelong at the G and Carlton v Hawthorn on Saturday.
2. Hot Chocolate Festival
There is an actual Hot Chocolate festival happening in the Yarra Valley at the moment, about an hour’s drive from the CBD at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, make sure you and all your chocolate fiend mates get there.
3. European Night Market
If you’re keen on some mulled wine, French Crepes, German sausages, some tunes and a festive atmosphere to kick off a weekend in the middle you might want to head down to Madame Brussels Lane on Friday night for the European Night Market!
4. Slide, Skate and Chill
The weather has been all over the place this week, it has been hard to tell if you need a jacket or if it is time to crack out the thongs. If you want a real winter experience in the middle of the city, The Common Man is still running their Slide, Skate and Chill where you can skate, toboggan and chill. It wraps on August 31st so this weekend is a great time to get down there.
5. Tech And Gadget Expo
Alright, if you’re into drones, virtual reality, self driving cars and just tech and gadgetry in general the Tech and Gadget Expo is for you. It’s at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is the second year of TGE and it is double the size of last year!
6. Donut And Beer Festival
Yep, the third food based activity in this list, but Melbourne has so much to offer!
There is a Donut and Beer festival going down in North Coburg, with Melbourne Donut staples like St Gerry’s and Cupcake Central serving up the goods, there will also be drinks and live entertainment!
7. The Melbourne International Film Festival
For the Film Buffs out there, remember that the Melbourne International Film Festival is wrapping up this Sunday, this weekend is perfect for rugging up, going out and enjoying this celebration of culture that has become a Melbourne staple.
