Melbourne’s Victoria Market will be getting a $250 million make over – including a tower.
The 130-year-old market will gain an underground car park, improved trader facilities and a revamp of the sheds.
The market has been trading since 1878 and attracted about 10 million visitors each year.
A 125 metre tower has also been approved. A temporary pavilion will house traders while the development takes place - which is expected to begin in March.
Currently traders so not have access to electricity, cold storage or running water.
