Drivers Urged To Avoid Princes Highway, VLine Services Suspended Due To Grassfire At Little River AAP

If you’re heading to Meredith this weekend, VicRoads are encouraging drivers to avoid the Princes Highway.

VicRoads are urging motorists not to travel on the Princes Highway unless necessary, with large plumes of smoke from a nearby bush fire reducing visibility.

Residents of Mambourin and Manor were recommended to evacuate after 2pm today due to a grass fire at Little River.

The fire is not yet under control, however firefighters have been able to stop the spread of the fire. The evacuation notice has been replaced with a  watch and act.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and is believed to have started from three points.

It's believed a number of homes have been destroyed in the area.

There is also an advice warning for the fire for those in Avalon, Cocoroc, Point Wilson and Werribee South.

VLine train services have been stopped until further notice between Wyndham Vale and Waurn Ponds. Extra staff are on hand at Wyndham Vale.

Experts are currently checking the track, to see if it will be damaged which will determine when the track re-opens.

Meredith music festival delayed early entrants on Thursday due to smoke from a fire around Buniyong and Scotsburn.
