St Kilda is getting it’s very own rainbow pedestrian crossing celebrating diversity and inclusion.
Last night Councillors unanimously voted for the project, which will mean 100m of Jackson St, in the Fitzroy St prescient, will be painted the colours of the rainbow flag.
Acting Mayor, Cr Dick Gross, said the area held an important place in Australian history.
“Fitzroy St was the location of Australia’s first price march and is the location of Australia’s price centre.”
He said any naysayers who baulked at the $28,000 cost didn’t understand just how many visitors the crossing would bring to the area.
Tourists are expected to flood to the area to take selfies with the crossing.
The four day paint job will begin later this month.
