A severe weather warning has been issues for heavy rainfall in Victoria.
The Bureau of Meteorology issues a warning for people in the Central, South West, Northern Country, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland, Wimmera and parts of the East Gippsland Forecast Districts this morning.
The warning reads:
“Widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected across most districts today. Periods of heavv rain which may lead to flash flooding are likely across the warning area.
Rainfall totals of 20 to 50mm are expected in the warning area today, with totals exceeding 70mm possible, especially with thunderstorms.”
The locations which maybe affected include Horsham, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne, Wodonga, Wangaratta and Traralgon.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
* Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
