A vegan sausage sizzle at Bunnings Mentone has caused a serious stir online.
Olivia told 3AW she’s been shopping at the store in Melbourne’s south-east when she noticed the meat-free snags on sale, fittingly raising money for Cheltenham Cat Rescue.
"We were a little shocked, considering it's probably one of the most male dominated destinations in the country!" she said.
"We were like ... thank you, but no thank you."
The story has caused outrage online – despite organiser Natasha Reus saying 550 sausages were sold.
“I think maybe some people were disappointed to come to Bunnings ready to buy a sausage and it’s not the traditional fare — some people were a bit angry, we had the odd Oscar winning performance but most people asked questions and many gave them a try,” Ms Reus told the Herald Sun.
Despite the outrage, this is the third time the organisation has held a vegan sausage sizzle.
