Melbourne Airport is set to receive a massive overhaul over the next two decades as it prepares to welcome double the amount of passengers using the terminals by 2038.
The airport is planning a new domestic terminal, a revamp of Terminal 2 (international) and a fourth runway.
The existing east-west runway will also be lengthened by 2027. An additional runway will mean the airport can handle 100 departures and arrivals every hour.
Melbourne Airport chief executive Lyell Strambi told ABC Radio that there is no government funding and the project will be handled by private enterprises.
The plans did not include the in-demand airport rail link.
