Heartless Car Thieves Steal Melbourne Boy's Cancer Equipment

The family of a young cancer patient in Melbourne's east are appealing for the return of crucial medical equipment stolen in a dual car theft.

It's understood teens took two cars from their Nunawading home sometime between Wednesday, 9pm and Thursday, 1am.

One of them contained six-year-old Hayden Clements specialist medical equipment, extensive medical records and prescription medication.

Hayden, who is being treated for an operable brain tumour, was due to undergo an MRI at the Royal Children's Hospital just hours after the theft.

"I just burst into tears," his mother Simone told the Herald Sun. "The first thing I thought was how will we get to the hospital."

On Thursday officers confirmed they had recovered both cars after the Audi in question rammed a police vehicle prompting a dramatic chase which saw a teenager arrested on the Burwood Highway. The medical equipment was not found.

Police have released images similar to the missing items taken from the Sunnyside Avenue home, which include reusable video laryngoscopes in a grey laptop-style bag.

A trolley and carry case are also missing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
