Flesh Eating Disease On The Rise In Victoria Pathology of Infectious Diseases

A flesh-eating bug is on the rise in regional Victoria and researchers are calling for government funding to stop the spread.

Buruli ulcer, an infectious disease most commonly found in west or central Africa and usually associated with stagnant water, can have devastating impacts on sufferers, including long-term disability and deformity.

"As a community, we are facing a rapidly worsening epidemic of a severe disease without knowing how to prevent it," the researchers said in an article published in The Medical Journal of Australia on Monday.
