The #ShepPROUD competition was held over two months and culminated on Wednesday, 1st August, 2018, with the announcement of the winner of the competition, a new local, Liaqat Ahmadi, with his video titled, ‘New in the Town’.
Liaqat’s three minute video tells of his dream to live in a town where he is free to go anywhere. Growing up in Pakistan and recently arriving in Shepparton, Liaqat was in search of a place where he would be able to live happily and be free to go anywhere. Stating that, ‘I now have a better life, better education, better community, better environment and more opportunities’
The winning video was one of 8 shortlisted local videos judged by a panel of independent community members. CEO of The Community Fund Goulburn Valley, Andrea McNab shared that, “The quality of messages in each of the video’s was so positive the judges had a difficult task but were unanimous in their choice of a Winner”.
“As in the past, we are delighted with the outcome of this year’s #ShepPROUD competition. These young people are our future and our future is looking bright! “These videos tell us that our young people love where they live, work and study and are happy to share their passion with us’ Andrea said.
Now in its third year, The Community Fund Goulburn Valley’s 2018 #ShepPROUD Youth Video Competition has, once again, revealed many hidden and talented young video artists in the Greater Shepparton region along with their positive stories about where they live, work, study and play!
Long-time supporters, Rob and Phil Priestly, of Gouge Linen and Garment Services first introduced the idea of a youth project to be driven by The Community Fund Goulburn Valley, in 2016. “#ShepPROUD Youth Video Competition was then born from this idea”, said Rob, “We love where we live, and know that there are many wonderful opportunities in Greater Shepparton … so we thought, why not let our local youth to tell the story about what they love about where they live!”
