POLICE SHUT DOWN ALLEGED ILLEGAL BROTHEL IN SHEPPARTON

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives have charged a woman in relation to the alleged operation of an illegal brothel following a search warrant earlier this month.

A 45-year-old woman from Hong Kong was arrested at a motel in Shepparton about 5.30pm on Thursday 3 May.

She was charged with knowingly living on the earnings of a sex worker and dealing in proceeds of crime.

The woman will appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 13 July 2018.

CIU Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis said Shepparton police will continue to target and investigate illegal brothels operating in the area.

“We want people to understand that if they attend an illegal premises for the purpose of sexual services they are possibly contributing to the exploitation of workers, but also putting their own health at risk and could be charged by police because they are committing an offence,” Det A/Sen Sgt Shortis said.

“Any business or property owners who think their premises is being used for illegal sexual services should contact Shepparton Police Station.”
