Moira Shire Council has approved planning for the solar farm at Wunghnu, with French energy company Neoen set to build a 500-hectare farm.

It's set to see around 350 thousand solar panels connected to the grid and as many as 200 jobs created during construction, many being locally sourced.

The 100 megawatt solar farm is expected to power in excess of 42 thousand homes - the company saying construction will start in February should all go to plan.

It follows a number of international energy companies looking to break in to the Aussie market, with our sunny country the perfect destination for solar power.
