If South East Queensland is going to go ahead with plans to launch an Olympic bid, now is the time.
That is according to leading demographer Bernard Salt, who believes the timing will be perfect after the Gold Coast hosts the Commonwealth Games in April 2018.
He also claimed it would help prevent a post-games jobs hangover, which happened after Sydney hosted the Olympics in 2000.
"It went into a bit of a post-event depression," Salt said.
"That's something I want to guard against with the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games by refocusing, regalvanising the community to say ... 'Why limit ourselves?'"
