A soggy arrest in Southport

A Labrador man's been accused of running off from a Southport restaurant without paying for the huge seafood feast he had just devoured.

Police alleged the 33-year-old chowed down on two lobsters, more than 20 oysters, a baby octopus and a large amount of alcohol from the Seaworld Drive eatery on Sunday evening before making a run for it.

Staff from the restaurant apparently gave chase and the man ran straight into the water at Main Beach.

Lifeguards were called in to take police out to the man on jetskis, but the alleged offender refused to go back to dry land on his own.

Officers had to dive in and force him back to shore.

It wasn't a matter of catch and release though, the man was arrested and charged with one count of stealing and two counts of serious assault of a police officer.

He was due to face the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
