Mayor Tom Tate has admitted he isn't happy with the Gold Coast sign on the M1 at Yatala either.

Complaints have flooded in about the light posts spelling out the letters of our city, with motorists saying you can't read it because of its position between the north and south-bound lanes, and the leader of the Glitter Strip agrees.

"Gold Coasters are absolutely slamming this one, and I have to say I'm probably one of them," said Cr Tate.

The Mayor said he wanted the sign in a spot where people could stop and take pictures with it, like the famous Las Vegas sign in the US.

"This location is too dangerous to stop your car and take a photo with it, that's the disappointing part," he said.

Cr Tate has agreed to push for the sign to be relocated after the Commonwealth Games, if he has enough support from the public.

This week it was also revealed the signs at the northern and southern entrances to the Gold Coast, cost more than $3 million dollars all up, about $1 million more than first thought.
