The Gold Coast sign on the M1 at Yatala has copped a lot of hate since it was installed a couple of months ago, but locals might not be complaining about it for much longer.
Acting Mayor Donna Gates has officially ordered a report into the multi-million dollar artwork at Yatala, after widespread community outrage.
"We recognise it's been a major error of judgement and today I've put forward a motion to see what we do about it now," she said.
The report will investigate how much it would cost to move the light-pole sculpture, modify it, or whether to simply get rid of it altogether.
"What we don't want to do is waste more of the rate payers' money on something that obviously has not been embraced," said Cr Gates.
The Acting Mayor said she was against the proposal from the beginning, realising it would be difficult for motorists to read as they zoomed past on the motorway, doing 110km/h.
"It was a point I made initially but there were only two councillors of the view that we should not proceed with that design," she said.
The report is due in a couple of months.
