Cold-case leads to huge gun stash

A Reedy Creek man has been charged after police allegedly discovered a huge stash of weapons at a property at Stanthorpe.

John Andrew Hitchen faced Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, and was granted bail after being charged with several weapons offences.

Police say they found 11 handguns, two AR15 rifles which were fully automatic, as well as three rifle barrels and more than 10,000 bullets hiding underground.

It comes as officers make follow-up investigations into the cold-case murder of Philip Carlyle in Robina back in April 1997.
