The big swell along the coast has led lifesavers to close most beaches on the Gold Coast this morning.
"We have closed most of the northern beaches although we have got a small area for a swim at Burleigh and down the southern end of Greenmount as well," said Chief Life Guard Warren Young.
"The swell is remarkably bigger this morning than yesterday afternoon".
More beaches could close later in the day, and stay off-limits to swimmers for the rest of the weekend, with the waves expected to get even bigger.
Sean Fitzgerald from the Bureau of Meteorology says there is a Hazardous Surf Warning in place thanks to a cyclone near Fiji.
"It is going to peak on Sunday so the waves are going to get stronger and stronger over the coming days."
It's good new for surfers, but Mr Young is urging them to play it safe as well.
"We're just encouraging experienced surfers only to go out," he said.
