The fire danger period for the Latrobe, Baw Baw, Bass Coast, South Gippsland and Cardinia shires will begin next Monday.

This means fires cannot be lit in the open air without a written permit from the CFA or Council while barbecues must be lit in properly constructed fireplaces.

It’s on the back of parts of West and South Gippsland receiving only half the average rainfall to this point of the year.

Don't underestimate bush fire risk - prepare now and make sure you are ready
