Ipswich City Council has given the official green light for a Costco warehouse to be built at Bundamba, with the store along Ashburn Road set to be the equivalent of two football fields in size.
Costco first announced plans to open its second Queensland store back in 2017 and has since been working to gain relevant approvals and prepare the site for construction. The block was levelled in November and future work will include construction of a new road from the existing roundabout at Ashburn Road and Hawkins Crescent.
It's hoped the store will open its doors to the public between September and December this year.
"This is a major development and a major boost to Ipswich and South East Queensland. Shoppers will come from far and wide to buy low cost merchandise for their own use or for re-sale by local businesses and suppliers," said Division 4 Councillor Kylie Stoneman.
The company will be employing 330 full-time and part-time staff, a discount service station will also be built next door.
