5 Brisbane Charities That Need Your Help This Christmas

For most of us Christmas is all about presents, gorging ourselves on food and kicking back by the beach. In the madness of silly season, it’s easy to forget that there’s a lot of people right on our doorstep doing it tough. Whether you’re looking for a gift idea for that person who has everything, you’ve got some stuff you want to donate, or you’ve got nothing to do on Christmas Day – here are some ways you can help out this festive season.

Mothers Against Drugs – The Be An Elf Christmas Appeal has been helping children in underprivileged homes to have a better Christmas since 2006. Get in touch and they can send you through a wish list from one of the hundreds of children. You can drop it off to the centre in Ipswich or arrange for one of their volunteers to collect it in time for delivery on Christmas Eve.

Salvation Army 10,000 Meals – A $10 donation will provide a meal for someone in need this Christmas, or get in touch to find out where you can help out this year.

Share The Dignity – Started in Brisbane in 2015, Share The Dignity collects sanitary products to donate to shelters for women. It’s In The Bag is another of their amazing projects – donate a new or second hand bag with a few essentials for a women in need this Christmas. Over 47,000 bags have been donated so far this year!

Brisbane Basket Brigade – This amazing group of volunteers puts together baskets to be delivered to families anonymously at Christmas. $30 will provide a food basket and gifts for one homeless person this Christmas or $60 for a family.

Bravehearts – Bravehearts has been actively contributing to preventing child sexual assault services across the country for nearly 20 years. Through education, empowerment and protection, Bravehearts works to make Australia the safest place in the world to raise a child. Gift donations are available on their website.
