Elise Stewart wins Victorian Vocational Student of the Year

Nurse overcomes deafness to win

Elise Stewart wins Victorian Vocational Student of the Year Victorian Training Awards

The Victorian Training Awards Gala was held in Melbourne on Friday night and Bendigo Tafe graduate Elise Stewart was named as the Vocational Student of the year.

It follows her efforts becoming the first deaf person to complete a diploma of nursing at the TAFE last year which saw her win the educator's student of the year award in April.

Elise thanking her wife and her family for the support they’d given her as she overcame being told she’d never become a nurse because of her hearing difficulties.

Bendigo TAFE CEO Trevor Schwenke has described Elise's win as "..an amazing achievement and an example to others seeking to overcome barriers to study and achieve their goals."

She won $5000 and a trophy for her efforts and she's now in the running for the national award which will be announced in Sydney in November.
