Smokers Banned From Norwood Parade

Norwood is after the title of Adelaide's first smoke-free suburban retail strip.

The Norwood, Payneham and St Peters Council will next week ask the community if it wants smoking banned on The Parade and some surrounding side streets.

Restrictions on butting out would be between Portrush Rd and Osmond Tce initially and if successful, extended to Fullarton Rd and around Norwood Oval.

"We've had a ban on smoking at our outdoor dining premises for well over a year now and the traders accept that and actually want that," Mayor Robert Bria said.

"It's good for their customer base."

Other areas have also enforced smoke-free rules.

"Henley Square introduced one in September last year, Moseley Square in September 2014 and Rundle Mall's had it for a while, including some of the laneways off it," Mayor Bria said.

Offenders won't face fines but instead will be educated about the dangers of smoking.
