South Aussie pet owners will soon be able to track their cats and dogs using a digital pet registration.
The state-wide database will replace 68 council registers from July 1 meaning rego and micro-chip info can be changed instantly and free of charge.
It also means the end of those coloured tags owners get every year, with one universal tag being sent out.
However, councils will remain responsible for setting rego fees individually.
It comes on the same date as new State Government laws for mandatory de-sexing and micro-chipping.

Registration discs in SA will be issued as a once-off to reduce waste and streamline pet registration.
Dog and Cat Management Board Secretary Andrew Lamb says "the new permanent registration number is linked with the dog, even if the owner moves to another South Australian council or if the dog changes owners".
“We are also giving dog owners the choice to replace their plastic grey disc with an engraved metal disc – giving them the chance to add their own flair to it" he said.
