Tram Upgrade Delayed

Jetty Road To Remain Open... For Now

Common sense has prevailed in the Jetty Road closure controversy.

The replacement of the tram tracks along the popular Glenelg shopping strip have been delayed until after the school holidays.

The decision to begin the $2.7 million works next Wednesday had sparked an angry backlash from local traders who argued they stood to lose business during the busy school holiday and Mothers Day period.

After talks with the Holdfast Bay Council and local member Duncan McFetridge, the Transport Department has agreed to push back the closure to May 15.

Works will happen around the clock until completion on June 9.

While Jetty Road will be closed to traffic between Brighton Road and Moseley Square, pedestrian access to local businesses will be as normal.

Tram services will terminate at Stop 15 (Brighton Road) during the upgrade and bus services re-routed.
