Big Plans Are On The Way For Hindley Street

The State Government's got plans to tizzy up Hindley Street.

They want to widen footpaths to make way for more outdoor dining in a bid to try and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Adelaide's notorious night strip would become a one-way street heading East from Morphett to King William Streets.

Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan says one direction works better for drivers too.

'One of the reasons why we think the traffic needs to head towards King William St is to maintain that important morning access for traffic from the West' he said.

'We can narrow the road width, bring the kerbs out and provide more opportunities for outdoor dining.. attract more people to this part of Hindley Street and provide a real boost, both at night time but also importantly during the day to support all those businesses' he said.

Detailed plans, traffic surveys and funding are yet to be commissioned.
