Huge New Shopping Centre Planned For Gepps Cross

A wasteland at Gepps Cross is set to be transformed.

Port Adelaide Enfield Council is expected to rezone land once occupied by parts of a former abattoir and old steel plant between Main North Road and Port Wakefield Road.

The owners of the site have plans to build a $30 million 100-store discount shopping hub to rival the likes of Harbour Town.

A tavern, service station, gym, supermarket and indoor trampoline centre could also be on the drawing board.

Experts predict almost 1500 jobs would be created at the retail complex, helping to offset losses from Holden's shutdown at Elizabeth.

Local residents have until February 18 to comment on the council's plans.
