School Holiday Boredom Won't Be A Thing In Townsville

Townsville kids will be having fun with the force and battling to become the city’s top Pokémon trainer as part of this year’s action-packed Summer School Holidays program.

Jedi Academy: Game On! combines light sabres, mindfulness and lots of fun into an hour exploration of “the force”; or battle your friends in the quest to become Townsville’s ultimate Pokémon champion.

They’re just a few of the free activities being offered by CityLibraries and Galleries to keep the kids entertained over the summer school break.

Cr Colleen Doyle said the broad range of activities available meant there was something fun for every child, no matter what their interests.

“There are some great arts workshops at our galleries, the Pokemon Tournament, and of course the Jedi Academy which I’m sure will be very popular,” she said.

“These workshops provide a great opportunity to get out of the house, learn some new skills, and maybe even make some new friends.”

Galleries and libraries school holiday activities include:

  • Santa’s Art workshops (9 – 17 December, Pinnacles Gallery)
  • Enchanted workshops (9 December – 21 January, Perc Tucker Gallery)
  • Pokémon Tournament (15 December, Thuringowa Library; 5 January, Townsville City Library)
  • Jedi Academy (3 & 15 January, Aitkenvale Library)

Cr Doyle said the summer holidays were a chance for families to take advantage of the city’s library and gallery facilities and explore what they have to offer.

“Townsville’s galleries and libraries have fantastic activities that run all year round, so the school holidays are a great chance for families to discover them,” she said.
