From 9am tomorrow CQUniversity will play host to the second annual Townsville Regional CQUniversity FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Robotics Challenge.

Twenty-three teams will see almost 160, 9-16 year olds from 17 schools across the Townsville region compete in the event.

This year’s theme is INTO ORBIT and will require teams to complete three event challenges, with robots, by choosing and solving a real-world problem in the Research Project, and by engineering 'space solutions' using LEGO technologies.

Event organiser and CQUniversity Education Lecturer Colin Baskin said the students would build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.

“The challenges require teams of students to work together, break out of constraints and think like scientists and engineers, operating under core values and celebrating discovery and teamwork.”

The ‘Overall Champion’ team and the ‘Judge’s Choice’ team will head to Brisbane in November to compete for entry in the Australian National FLL Championship in Sydney in December.
