Newcastle’s Bar Beach will be the centre of the skateboard world this weekend with many of the best skateboarders contesting the Australian Bowl-Riding Championship across Junior, Females, Masters and Pro divisions.
ABC is the only true national titles for skate bowl competitors and provides an opportunity to crown Australia’s best while also giving local riders the chance to launch their careers on the international stage. Australian skateboarding is currently in celebration mode with two young Aussies claiming titles at the prestigious Bowl-A-Rama competition staged in Bondi last weekend.
13yr Newcastle local, Sabre Norris won the Females competition while 16yr Jedd McKenzie (also a Newcastle local) took 5th place in the pros. Attendance at ABC is free, with grandstand seating set-up around the bowl to give fans a great view of the incredible action. Food and merchandise outlets will be in operation, providing a festival beachside atmosphere.
The Pros division has an incredible line-up with Newcastle local Jedd McKenzie, Clay Greiner, Tom Schaar and Jonothan Schwan among the many superstars of the sport. The Females division is headlined by Newcastle locals Sabre and Sockie Norris & Poppy Starr Olsen, who returns to defend her ABC title. Poppy was placed third at Bowl-A-Rama last weekend and she will be looking to turn the tables on fellow local Sabre Norris.
In the Juniors division at Bowl-A-Rama last weekend, the quality of the kids amazed skate legends. Newcastle are sure to be entertained as the juniors compete for the ABC title.
