Everything You Need To Know About The Australian Antarctic Festival 2018 Australian Antarctic Festival

Hobart is often considered the home of more Antarctic scientists than anywhere else in the world, with several important organisations located in the city to support the claim. The city is a thriving scene for Antarctic science, logistics, shipping and more.

You may be one who would love to experience the wonder of the coldest place on earth without actually having to be in the coldest place on earth…

Well it’s your lucky day!

In anticipation of the explorations and research that will begin as soon as sea ice conditions allow, the Australian Antarctic Festival will bring Antarctica to Hobart for four days, from Thursday 2nd– Sunday 5thAugust.

This will be Hobart’s second time hosting the festival, with more activities and exhibitions than ever before, including two Antarctic ships at Princes Wharf.

As an extra special treat, the boys choir of the Shore Preparatory School, Sydney will be putting on two free performances of the multi-media piece ‘Great Scott!’ at St David’s Cathedral on Saturday 4thAugust, 2:00pm and 6:30pm. The work pays tribute to Robert Falcon Scott, and the members of his expedition party, who died in a bid to reach the South Pole in 1912.

Be a part of the magic of the coldest, highest, driest and windiest place on earth as you learn about the beautiful continent of Antarctica and meet with the people who live in -40 degrees Celsius!

Head to the Antarctic Festival website for more information.
