Your Gold Coast Show 2017 Bucket list

The go-to guide for this weekend!

Your Gold Coast Show 2017 Bucket list
Roll up, roll up!

The Gold Coast Show rolls into town this long weekend for its 111th year deep-frying Dagwood dogs and bringing the inner child out of the most macho of GC men.

If you get lost just inside the Haunted House, then you’re definitely going to need this guide to navigate your way through the Turf Club show ground.

This year, there are some new additions to mark the show’s milestone making it even harder to choose what to do and where to go.

Here are Sea FM's top 5 things you can’t go home from the show without doing:

Fireworks Display

Yes it’s been a long day and yes you’ve spent too much money, but you can’t leave without seeing the fireworks display.

Always a crowd favourite, every night from 8pm get hypnotised as colourful dancing lights brighten the sky.

Are you a true fireworks fan? Half an hour before, at the Rodeo Arena, the biggest laser light show in the Southern hemisphere is set to WOW crowds. They're sooooo pweeety.

Sugar-high Alley

Take a walk down Sideshow Alley and get lost in more than 100 show bags on offer this year. There’s a noticeable difference too, most of the bags have ditched the plastic and they’re now re-useable.

For those who just want to say they got a bag, go for the $5 option. For show bag enthusiasts, the $28 bag will get you the Rolls Royce of show bags, with limited edition accessories inside.

These two, are Sea FM’s top picks:

Bertie Beatle $5 show bag

Cadbury $8 show bag

Cute-as-a-button baby animals

If you don’t love little baby animals, with their little baby faces, inside little baby nurseries, there’s something wrong with you.

That’s exactly what you’ll get at the agricultural zone, ready to be played with across the weekend. The always-popular pig racing is back too, everyday from midday.

Run piggies! Run!

Dance the show away

You may have seen his face and heard his beats in Culture King stores across the Coast. Gold Coast local, DJ Ulaz will bring his set to the Gold Coast show, spinning tunes at Side Show Alley all weekend. Say hello, get a selfie, and dance the show away!

Eat Lasagne on a stick

Then there’s the food. You can’t go past the classics: Dagwood dogs, chips, fairy floss and for the health conscious - chocolate smothered strawberries - until this year.

The Gold Coast show held a social media comp asking for the best deep-fried food on a stick. The winner was USA inspired treat, deep fried lasagne from Midway Catering and it looks bloody sensational. Pack an extra stomach, because the runners up will be there too, with deep fried cheesecake, Oreos, cheese, chips and mars bars. DROOL.
