There are hundreds of Gold Coast restaurants these days, and we are certainly NOT complaining. Plenty of these eateries are gaining serious #instafamous status thanks to Gold Coasters plastering their foodie outings all over social media (guilty) and as a result, these dozen or so eateries are getting all the attention!
Today, however we wanted to give some love to the little guys. The eateries that always deliver AMAZING food, service like no-other, a more-homey-less-hustle-and-bustle atmosphere and most importantly consistency that ensures the regulars return each and every week. These are the eateries that aren’t popping up on your Instagram feed every second day, the eateries that you may have never heard of, or the eateries you drive past every day and didn’t even know existed.
These eateries are total “Hidden Gems” and you should definitely give them a visit sooner rather than later.
Kampung Malay is an authentic Malaysian restaurant offering all of the dishes you’d expect on the menu at your local Chinese restaurant (all with a bit of a twist of course) as well as a couple of specific Malaysian-style dishes. Kampung Malay is owned and operated by a Gold Coast family and the service is always exceptional! Kampung Malay has restaurants in three locations across the Gold Coast (Mudgeeraba, Robina and Bundall) and the best part is, you can BYO to all of them.
One your next visit to Kampung Malay, be sure to order one of our favourite dishes… the satay chicken, rainbow beef or mellaccan chicken (they are all equally delicious!). Most importantly, if you’re making the trip out, you must and I mean MUST order the Roti Chanai bread appetizer. It’s all of your pre-dinner dreams come true and more.

To be honest, I had heard of this place, but was unsure where it was or what it was all about until last week, but boy am I pleased that’s all changed now. Last week we ate dinner at Nero for the first time and it was such a treat! Nero is a modern Australian share plate dining experience, with influence from Italian and Spanish flavours. It’s situated just out of the hustle and bustle of Broadbeach on Sunshine Blvd right next to Grocer and Grind. Nero is a father-son owned and operated restaurant, with family and friends staffing the restaurant both front and back of house.
The food is exceptional and the wine selection even better. I definitely recommend ordering the tempura broccolini and the potato gnocchi – these dishes were our favourites. Added bonus at Nero is that you get free bread and butter. AND it’s not just any bread and butter either, the bread is freshly baked in house and still warm when it arrives on the table.
You may know Parkwood Village as the Home of the Gold Coast Titans, but you may not know that there is a WHOLE lot more to it than that! Firstly, there’s a golf course (probably the most obvious one), wedding and function venues, a trampoline park, a mini golf course, a barber, virtual golf and best of all an epic eatery right in the middle. Village Lane serves up epic share plates, amazing cocktails and even cooks traditional pizza’s in their gorgeous pizza oven on site. There’s even a kids village where you can leave the kids to play (supervised) while you enjoy a drink… or 3.
Head down any Sunday during Spring or Summer and you’ll be treated to tropical vibes, live music, margarita jugs and pina coladas served from pineapples! Check it out asap, I promise you’ll be as blown away as I was.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Miami you’ll find That’s Amore serving some of the most delicious pizza and pasta on the Gold Coast. We love the vibes of this place, whether you want an indoor, quieter dining experience or you’d prefer to sit outside and listen to the live music (Friday and Saturday nights), That’s Amore can cater to your needs!
My picks from the menu are: the garlic focaccia, the That’s Amore pizza and the Gamberi Prawns pasta. To be honest, you could order anything off their menu and leave very satisfied with your very own food baby!
