Okey Dokey, it's time for Pokè!
By Gold Coast Eats
For weeks we watched the construction take place, and slowly saw the restaurant take shape. Pokè Pokè has now opened its doors to the public and the finished product has not let us down!
The Mermaid Beach shop fit out has a very tropical feel with wood carvings covering the exterior walls, bunches of bananas hanging from ceilings and a cute tuck-shop-style hole in the wall where the counter orders take place.
Pokè bowls originated in Hawaii and have been gaining some serious traction over in the US and UK the last couple of years. Pokè is essentially a raw fish salad, often with Tuna or Salmon, a rice or quinoa base and other fresh ingredients like shallots, edamame and avocado.
Pokè bowls are super delicious and don't leave you feeling heavy after you devour one. We are SO happy this food trend has made it's way to Aus and even happier that we have our own Pokè bar right here on the Gold Coast.
The Pokè Pokè menu was surprisingly extensive - I didn't know how many different types of Pokè bowls existed. Turns out there's heaps! The Hawaiian-inspired menu boasts dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner with plenty of Pokè bowls and acai bowls on offer! If you're not a raw fish fan, there's still plenty of options for you too including their roti rolls or the chicken (Lemongrass or Karage) Pokè bowls.
When I visited on Saturday, the restaurant had only been opened for two days and it was already buzzing and filled to the brim with people. I ordered the "Tuna Me On" Pokè Bowl and it was the best Pokè I'd ever eaten!
Be sure to visit Pokè Pokè Mermaid Beach and jump on the Pokè bowl bandwagon asap!
