When: Saturday 28th July, 2018
Where: Crossroads Hotel, Tomingley
Kailem’s Dog A Hog and Family Day will take place at The Cross Roads Hotel, Tomingley on Saturday 28th July 2018. This is an annual day where we come together with family, friends and community members to honour Kailem and raise funds. Kailem was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2014, he was 17 years old. Kailem passed away on 1 December 2016. The aim of our fundraising is to make a donation to the Chris O’Brien LifeHouse for research into childhood cancers such as Ewing’s Sarcoma; and for a “kitty” to help ease the financial pressure for families with a child diagnosed with cancer in the western region. Our inaugural Dog A Hog Family Day in 2017 raised almost $27000 and we are looking to raise $50 000 this year. Tony knows firsthand the pressure placed upon families when you are told to take your child straight to Sydney for treatment. Both mum and dad need to be there but unfortunately, in many cases, due to financial responsibilities one parent still needs to work. We want to be able to ease that pressure by providing funds to the family to help pay for or subsidise accommodation while in Sydney, to pay a mortgage payment or rent, or for whatever the family needs – maybe towards time away after treatment – whatever. We haven’t sorted the finer details yet but it’s in the works. We are open to donations of items for the auction, raffle prizes, sponsorship of an event and/or cash to help run the day.
