It’s hard enough taking on the Canberra winter chill in the mornings, let alone in your birthday suit!

That’s what dozens of brave Canberrans are preparing to do later this week, all for a good cause.

The 2nd Winter Solstice Nude Charity Swim kicks off bright and early on Thursday June 21!

More than 50 locals have signed up to get their gear off and take a dip in icy cold Lake Burley Griffin to help raise money for Lifeline Canberra and Love Your Sister.

For those who are keen but a little apprehensive, good news is, there’s no particular length of time you need to stay in the water!

“Your feet get the coldest. All we ask is people immerse themselves in the water and they can swim one metre or 50, it doesn’t matter,” Organiser, Ian Lindeman, said.

It follows last year’s inaugural event, when four courageous swimmers raised $2100 for Love Your Sister.

“When you do something like this, you do feel a lot better. You come out feeling great, you feel as though you’ve done something. You’re refreshed in more ways than one,” Mr Lindeman said.

“There’s an old spiritual thing with it being that it’s the shortest day of the year and you wash away the negative energy from the past and you’re refreshed for the new solar year.”

To warm up, there’ll be fires along the Yarralumla shoreline and the Tuggeranong Lions Club will be serving hot coffee and a sausage sizzle.

There’ll also be a bagpipe player to serenade the participants into the water!
