It’s that time of year again when little witches and ghosts start knocking on doors for Halloween, asking “trick or treat?”

It sparked a conversation on the HIT 104.7 Breakfast show this morning about what the “trick” part of the question actually means.

Ryan thought it acted as a type of friendly blackmail – whereby the kids would play a trick/prank on the adult if they didn’t give them a treat.

Whereas newsreader Kat was adamant if the adult chose trick, then the kids need to perform a trick in order to get a treat.

A bunch of listeners called in with mixed responses..

According to Wikipedia – “the trick is usually an idle threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.”
