It’s nearly that time of year again when thousands of Canberrans and their four-legged friends take to Lake Burley Griffin for the Million Paws Walk – but you may notice something a bit different this year!

Hundreds of dog owners are expected to be dressed as pooches, as part of the RSPCA ACT’s attempt to break a third Guinness World Record.

They hope to beat the UK’s record of the largest gathering of people dressed as dogs, which currently stands at 439.

A time for the true dog lovers to shine!

Keen to take part? There’s some rules you need to know first…

All participants must be dressed in a full dog costume, head to toe, including headpiece with ears.

Costumes must also be clearly recognisable as dogs, with officials on site to check!

RSPCA ACT CEO Tammy Ven Dange said they’re no stranger to setting records – the first with the most number of dogs dressed up with bandannas and the second involving the woolly sheep Chris who was in need of a serious haircut.

“This time we wanted to celebrate the animal lovers out there by getting the humans involved.  After all, how can a person show more love than through their willingness to dress up like their favourite pooch?  The dogs will be thrilled!”

The record attempt kicks off at 10am on Sunday May 20 at the Patrick White Lawns, with the final count at 10:30am.

You need to register for the Million Paws Walk before April 30 to be part of it!
