Several Raiders legends will hit the field in Queanbeyan this Friday, in what’s expected to be a fun game for a worthy cause, with a dose of revenge!

The Pie in the Sky Charity rugby league match kicks off at Seiffert Oval on the 28th of September.

This year’s game sees the David Reid Homes All-Stars coached by Mal Meninga and led by Alan Tongue, take on the Queanbeyan Blues, led by Terry Campese.

Money from ticket sales will go to charities ‘Treehouse’ and ‘Respite Care for Queanbeyan’.

Whenever Campo and Tonguey’s names are mentioned in the same sentence – it often takes fans back to that game in 2008 when Campese scored 36 points in a 74-12 domination of Penrith.

It could’ve been 38 – equal to Mal Meninga’s record for the most points scored by a Raider in one game.

But Tongue, who was captain at the time, tossed the kicking tee to Marc Herbert, denying Campese the chance to be up there with the Immortal Meninga!

“There’s been a bit of banter about myself and Tonguey. It’s a great opportunity on the day, I’ve got the two guys in that one game – Herbie and Tonguey. I think I’ll get my payback and it brings a bit of excitement to the game also,” Campese joked.

Tongue has admitted, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to take part at first.

But, that didn’t last long.

“You hear about the reason why we’re playing this game and that really resonated with me. At the end of the day, the Raiders have always been a community club,” he said.

“This is another way for us of being able to contribute to the Raiders and the community that looked after us. To play against the Queanbeyan Blues and Campo’s side is something that’s going to be really special.”

Tongue isn’t so sure how his body will hold up though!

“The best years might be behind us but at the end of the day, footballers are competitors. There’ll be a bit of fun, the standards will be up and down but it’ll be played in good spirits and no doubt everybody will be trying to do their best for each other,” he said.

Campese agreed it’s a fantastic opportunity for all involved.

“Some of these guys are Raiders tragics so it’s a great opportunity for them to play against some of their heroes they grew up watching on TV,” he said.

“It’s also a great opportunity for the community and the charities involved. Hopefully we can get a good crowd and raise decent funds!”

The former legends in the All Stars team include Ken Nagas, Mark Tookey, Ben Roarty, Alan Tongue, Michael Weyman, Shane Millard, Jason Croker (trainer), Brett Mullins (trainer), Joel Monaghan, Marcus Bai, Wes Black, David Barnhill, Lincoln Withers, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, Glen Buttriss, Adrian Purtell, Marc Herbert, Trevor Thurling, Mal Meninga (coach) and Bill Harrigan (referee).

Kick off is at 6:30pm at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan.
