The Gungahlin Eagles Rugby Club is doing its bit to spread the message that it’s okay for men and boys to ask for help.

The club’s annual Charity Day kicks off on Saturday the 7th of July, raising money for Menslink.

Menslink works with young men going through tough times, with a key focus on tackling mental health issues and suicide.

Gungahlin Eagles General Manager Trent Pollard said the charity suits the demographic of their club.

“We know firsthand that young males go through tough times all the time and we see it as a big issue is making sure males feel confident talking about their feelings during tough times,” he said.

“If we can support a charity who does that and brings to light the issue, then we’re doing good things.”

Mr Pollard said there’ll be a few different ways people can help them reach their $5,000 fundraising target.

“We’ve got a massive charity day raffle that has close to 15 big prizes and there’s a charity day function happening at the Gungahlin Club on Saturday night. If you turn up, you can bid for the limited-edition jerseys there and there’ll be plenty of buckets going around for you to throw some cash into,” he said.

“Over the last few years we’ve raised just over $15,000 for the Cancer Council and Menslink so it’d be good to add to that tally.”

There’ll be plenty of rugby games on the day, with the Gungahlin Eagles taking on Queanbeyan in the first grade at 3:05pm.

All the action kicks off just before 11am at Nicholls Enclosed Oval.
