If you haven’t planned anything for Valentines Day, it seems you’re not the only one!

Suncorp surveyed 1,000 Aussies aged 16-64 in January this year to find out how much they spend on the big day.

Interestingly, nearly half (45%) of couples surveyed plan to give the romantic holiday a miss!

Those intending to embrace the day will spend an average $127 on their special someone.

What about all the loved-up couples in Canberra?

When it comes to Valentines Day generosity, it seems we are in the middle of the pack.

Locals spend about $119 on the occasion, with NSW romantics the most generous spenders at $162.

Tasmanians spend the least – forking out about $94.

It seems the older you get, the less you plan to spend!

Couples aged 16-34 spend about $86, those aged 35-49 spend $73 on average and those in the 50-64 category fork out about $34.

But romance isn’t entirely dead though! 23% of couples confirmed they view Valentines Day as an opportunity to be romantic.
