It’s that time of year when many of us get to indulge in abundant food and gifts, as we celebrate Christmas with loved ones.

But it’s something many struggling Canberrans don’t get to enjoy.

To help those less fortunate, HIT104.7 are asking people to drop off new, unwrapped toys for 0-12 year olds and non-perishable food items to the station at 55 Bellenden Street in Crace.

It’s part of the annual toy appeal for Uniting Care Kippax, supporting over 1000 families in Canberra this Christmas.

“It means that the kids get to have the same conversations with their peers that all their other friends do about what they got for Christmas. And they get to eat a celebratory meal and that’s something they’d otherwise miss out on,” Executive Officer of Uniting Care Kippax, Meg Richens, said.

“And that’s huge, that process of being able to share and celebrate and enjoy the season the same way that everybody else does is a big part of feeling like you belong in the community.”

Canberra FM General Manager Craig Wagstaff said the ‘Let’s Give Everyone a Christmas’ appeal is something the station feels very strongly about.

“We always maintain that we have an obligation to the community, the very people to whom we are extremely appreciative for their support each day, and this is just a small way we can play a part at a special time of the year that is sadly challenging for some of our fellow Canberrans.”

The appeal is expected to help between 600-700 families, and that’s just from the north side of town!

“There really are a lot of people who get a really big kick out of being able to have a Christmas that’s just like everyone elses,” Ms Richens said.

There’s just four days left to donate. We really appreciate your support Canberra!
