Locals are rallying together in support once again for Canberra’s little warrior princess – Annabelle Potts.
A fundraising dinner kicks off at 6:30pm at the Southern Cross Club in Woden on June 30, to raise money for more cancer treatment in Mexico.
Annabelle’s had 10 treatments to date for her inoperable brain tumour, with each costing $30,000 including accommodation, flights, private hospital stay, doctors’ fees and medications.
She still needs more treatments though, with the family hoping to raise enough money for one or two more at the upcoming dinner.
Annabelle’s mum Kathie said the community and their life savings have funded the treatment to date.
“Despite the fact that the treatment is obviously working, and there is nothing available in Australia, we do not receive any help from the government,” Kathie said.
“It melts my heart that we have such an incredible community who are literally helping to save my daughter’s life and words cannot express my gratitude.”
Overall, Annabelle is doing pretty well.
She’s enjoying preschool, ballet classes and just being a regular four-year-old!
In true Annabelle style, she always has a smile on her face, even in the tougher times.
“Recently she has been tired, has slightly slurred speech and has been limping. At her most recent treatment, the doctors said we need to move the treatments closer together again to stop tumour growth,” Kathie said.
“The doctors in Australia gave her 6-9 months to live, but she is going on 17 months since diagnosis.”
Annabelle’s family would love as many people as possible to attend the fundraising dinner, so they can personally thank those who’ve helped.
Around 160 tickets have already been snapped up – with the space able to accommodate up to 400 people.
Tickets are $140 each and include a three-course dinner, drinks, entertainment, games, a live band, live auction, silent auctions and raffles.
