It’s that time of year when parents load the kids in the car for the trip around Canberra to check out the best Christmas light displays.

There’s certainly no shortage of them in the nation’s capital, whether it be the usual favourites lighting up the streets or some festive new additions!

Some locals really go all out to make it a magical experience for everyone, with interactive displays, Santa visits and lights synced to popular songs!

While there’s plenty of worthy mentions, we thought we’d gather six of the best to get you started, three from the north and three from the south!

One of the most impressive is 47 Bissenberger Crescent in Kambah.

There’ll be even more surprises this year to entertain the kids with music, a nativity scene, a roof display, walk-in display and more!

Don’t forget to take a gold coin or two for the ACT Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group.

Another special display on the southside can be found at 17 Middleton Circuit in Gowrie.

As well as the spectacular lights, there’s also stalls, a raffle, craft items, delicious treats, a lolly guessing game and more!

A choir will entertain visitors on the 9th, 16th and 23rd, with all funds raised to go to Brain Tumour Support.

The Christmas lights at 22 Fingleton Crescent in Gordon are also a must-see!

Enjoy the musical extravaganza as the lights are synced to music!

With over 10,000 lights, this is one not to be missed!

One of the best displays on the north-side has to be 120 Bingley Crescent in Fraser.

Walk in to experience Santa’s workshop, check out the window displays and watch the Christmas trains!

The kids will also have a ball with the bubble machine, glow bracelets and other fun activities.

Another impressive lights display on the northside can be found at 37 Diamond Street in Amaroo!

The house and garden are decked out with a range of lights, and there’s also a giant 6 metre Santa and giant reindeer!

The display at 16 Tipping Place in McKellar is another you should add to your list!

New pieces have been included this year, with fairy lights added to the window display and every bush, tree and shrub in the garden!

Check out Santa’s mail room in one of the windows, with elves and reindeer making an appearance too.

Other outstanding light displays can be found at 46 Tiptree Crescent in Palmerston, 19 Crowder Circuit in Stirling, 1 Ina Gregory Circuit in Conder, 17 Delma View in Gungahlin, 24 Couchman Crescent in Chisholm, 43 Must Circuit in Calwell, and two homes in Beela Place, Ngunnawal!
