Canberra will be well represented at the Miss World Australia competition, with 20-year-old Emily Egan proudly flying the flag for the nation’s capital!

She’ll compete in the NSW state finals in Sydney in July, where she’ll hopefully advance to the national finals in August!

From there, one winner will be picked to represent Australia at the international competition.

Emily said she’s thrilled to represent her home town.

“I really want to show the other states what Canberra’s made of. I’ve been here my whole life and I’m so proud to be from here.”

It seems the old school pageant ways of parading around in bikinis have changed, with the bikini section abolished for this competition.

“We think in changing the format, we’re able to have a competition that really reflects the values we’re trying to promote,” Emily said.

“We focus heavily on fundraising and charity and bettering yourself as a person.”

Emily’s raising money for Variety Australia – with all funds going to children in need.

“It’s not only kids who are sick or ill, it’s also kids with a disability, children facing financial hardship and kids for example living in rural areas to help with education and support. It’s helping the most vulnerable in our society,” she said.

“I need Canberra’s help. I need you guys to rally behind me so I can donate as much money to charity as I can!”

Let’s get behind Emily Canberra! You can donate here.
