A Canberra man passionate about records and animals has decided to combine his two loves for a good cause!

Songland Records in Weston Creek is holding a major sale of donated music and movies next month, where every cent will go towards the animals at the local RSPCA.

In the lead up to the sale on October 6 and 7, Canberrans are encouraged to drop off any unwanted vinyls, records, DVD’s, boxed sets, TV’s, stereo systems and more.

“We don’t care what people have, people have been dropping in sheet music, whatever we can sell to raise money for the animals, we will gladly take,” Owner of Songland Records, Frog, said.

“I’m a huge lover of animals and I’ve been working with the good folks at the RSPCA for many years, I appreciate the work they do and the animals need all the help they can get.”

Tied in with the international success of Record Store Day in April, the sale has now evolved into a twice-yearly event for Songland.

Over the years, the many thousands of dollars has helped buy a range of items for the RSPCA, from toys to a dog training area.

“Just recently we spent another $1000 and bought two sterilizing units which they go through very quickly there,” Frog said.

“When you see the happy faces on the animals, it’s really worth it!”

Senior Vet Nurse at the RSPCA in Weston Creek, Sophie Acton, said money raised from previous sales has been invaluable.

“Our ultrasonic cleaners are essential and used every day to clean our surgical instruments. Without them we couldn’t perform our many routine de-sexing surgeries or our more complicated and life-saving procedures,” she said.

“Unfortunately, through routine wear and tear, we will soon be in need of two new ultrasonic cleaners. Please give as much as you can this year to Songland’s Record Store Day and you will be helping us to look after Canberra’s animals in need."

The gorgeous kitty in this pic, Captain Sparklepants, recently received one of the cheques from Songland.

After the photo was posted online, Captain Sparklepants was adopted soon after!

If you’d like to donate, you can drop off your unwanted items to Songland Records at Cooleman Court in Weston Creek.

They’re open seven days a week.

And most importantly, head to their sale on October 6 and 7 to score some cool gear and support animals in need!
