Canberra’s getting another glittery street party to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the YES vote for marriage equality!

Yes!Fest will take over the streets of Braddon on Saturday November 17, with street performers, live music, food trucks and places to grab a drink.

Organiser Jacob White said they’ll look to recapture the excitement from last year’s marriage equality celebration.

“Yes!Fest from the outside will kind of look like Mardi Gras meets the Multicultural Festival and kind of more of a street neighbourhood block party vibe all in one. A little bit of gayness, little bit of queerness, all celebrating our community and the YES vote last year.”

Jacob said it’s amazing to look at how far we’ve come since then.

“It’s all become so normal now and people are talking about their husbands and their wives and the sky hasn’t fallen in. Pigs haven’t started flying. But I hope people can enjoy their lives if they choose to live them a little bit more.”

A Pozible crowd funding page has been set up for those who’d like to support the festival directly.
