Canberra’s full of talented cake-makers – but are there any who can turn the Big Prawn or the Big Merino into something delicious?

The PANDSI Cake-Off is back for another year, with organisers wanting locals to bake cakes featuring big Aussie things!

Among the other choices are the Big Trout, the Big Lobster and the Big Pineapple – with 54 of Australia’s big attractions to choose from.

“The exciting breaking news this morning is we’ve just added the Big Footy, we’re also including Uluru, the Great Barrier Reef and the Cotter Dam, so some things that are big but aren’t roadside attractions,” PANDSI President, Christine Spicer, said.

“We’ve also got the Big Watermelon, the Big Avocado, the Big Gumboot, the Big Ugg Boot and the Big Golden Guitar!”

Money raised from the Cake-Off goes towards PANDSI – an organisation that supports over 300 local families experiencing perinatal depression or anxiety.

Last year’s event was all about Canberra – with bakers re-creating Telstra Tower, Skywhale and Mooseheads – to name a few!

Around $56,000 was raised in 2017, with the ACT Government kicking in $25,000 in donation matching.

“The Government’s agreed to do that again this year, so we have a minimum target of $25,000,” Ms Spicer said.

“Our main objective is to reduce the stigma of perinatal depression and anxiety and also raise funds. We can’t wait to see the amazing creations!”

The event will be held at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra on Sunday May 6.

Registrations open on Wednesday March 14 on the PANDSI website!
