The oven mits are out and the icing is ready to go!

It’s been a busy week so far for over 50 Canberrans who’ve rolled up their sleeves to get baking for Sunday’s big PANDSI Cake-Off!

They’re baking cakes featuring big Aussie things like the Big Prawn, the Big Banana, the Big Pineapple, the Big Watermelon, the Big Merino, the Big Trout, the Big Lobster, the Big Avocado, the Big Golden Guitar, the Big Ugg Boot – the list goes on.

There’ll also be cakes replicating iconic Aussie locations like Uluru, the Luna Park Smile, the Great Barrier Reef and Cotter Dam!

“We expect hundreds of people to view the cakes and we really want people to dig deep and bid on the cakes at auction so they can take home one of the great masterpieces,” PANDSI President Christine Spicer said.

“It’s a win-win, people get to walk home with a cake and they get to help a local charity.”

Money raised from the Cake-Off goes towards PANDSI – an organisation that supports over 300 local families experiencing perinatal depression or anxiety.

“The minimum we wish to raise if $25,000. We know it’s a big task but the ACT Government has offered to donation match to that amount,” Ms Spicer said.

“The more money we have, it means we can reduce the waiting times for mums that call up and need our help.”

The event will be held at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra on Sunday May 6.
